COUNTDOWN is a global initiative by TED aimed at supporting and accelerating the implementation of solutions to the climate crisis, transforming ideas into action. COUNTDOWN’s goal is therefore to build a better future for all, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by half by 2030, for a safer, cleaner and fairer world.

The global launch of COUNTDOWN will take place today, 10 October 2020, with a digital event that will allow you to hear the ideas of leading thinkers and experts on the subject. This global event will serve as an inspiration and a stimulus for action by world leaders and people around the world. Based on shared ideas, TED will launch a series of cross-sectoral projects with its partners, each aimed at addressing a climate-related challenge.

Each project will set specific and bold goals and drive new commitments and actions ahead of the COUNTDOWN Summit, which will bring together 1,200 leaders from around the world and will be held in Edinburgh in October 2021 and the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in 2021.

And in Italy: The Italian TEDx community has mobilized to create a series of initiatives to spread the talks of the world edition of COUNTDOWN and other valuable ideas on the theme of Climate Action, through a rich program of physical and digital events that will be held between 10 and 18 October in more than 20 Italian cities.
