TED is a non-profit organization which aims to Spread Ideas of Value. Starting as a 4-day conference in California (USA) over 30 years ago, TED has grown to support ideas that change the world with different initiatives. The annual TED conference invites the best thinkers and creators of the world to speak for 18 minutes. Their speech is then made available, free of charge, on TED.com. TED speakers include Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and Gordon Brown.
The annual TED Conference is held in Vancouver, Canada. TED multimedia initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are published every day and the Open Translation Project, which offers interactive subtitles and transcripts, as well as the possibility for each TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers around the world. TED has created an annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a desire to change the world receive the opportunity to transform their desires into actions.
TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local and self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, which helps innovators who want to change the world, come from all over to become a part of the TED community, and with their help, amplify the impact of their exceptional projects and activities, and TED-Ed, an education project which teaches school students the techniques of story telling, the project is offered by TED in a totally free way.
