TEDxRoma 2019 – May 4th

Society 5.0

A Human Centric future

Progress, innovation, and future are notions continuously present in today’s politics, economy, and global society. People of all ages are involved in a new cultural evolutionary shift never seen before: the digital transformation of our species.

This new reality compels us to reestablish objectives shaped by the following questions: What do we want our society to look like in the immediate and near future? What should the relationship between humankind and its artificial expansion be based on? Who will lead the way and guide the outcomes of the upcoming progress of the 21st century?

What role will humans play during this unrestrainable transformation?

There is a strong urge to explore these challenges and to ponder what this new human identity should be like. An identity that, contrary to today’s social and economic drifts, should once more be at the center of our work and attention. Will the new digital, fast-tracked, complex, and unequal society, unaware of the past while relentlessly chasing after the future, be able to find a new equilibrium among forces that determine our historical evolution? That is, will it place human beings at the center of their choices at all times?

This is the Society 5.0  we hope for. A human-centered society where the human identity, thanks to the evolution of modern technology, is stronger and more aware, able to benefit from the teachings of the past to create a new type of coexistence: balanced, coherent and truly evolved.

TED is a non-profit organization which aims to Spread Ideas of Value. Starting as a 4-day conference in California (USA) over 30 years ago, TED  has grown to support ideas that change the world with different initiatives. The annual TED conference invites the best thinkers and creators of the world to speak for 18 minutes. Their speech is then made available, free of charge, on TED.com. TED speakers include Bill Gates,  Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert,  Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,  Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,  Isabel Allende and Gordon Brown.

The annual TED Conference is held in Vancouver, Canada. TED multimedia initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are published every day and the Open Translation  Project, which offers interactive subtitles and transcripts, as well as the possibility for each TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers around the world. TED has created an annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a desire to change the world receive the opportunity to transform their desires into actions.

TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local and self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, which helps innovators who want to change the world, come from all over to become a part of the TED community, and with their help, amplify the impact of their exceptional projects and activities, and TED-Ed, an education project which teaches school students the techniques of story telling, the project is offered by TED in a totally free way.

In the spirit of the ideas that deserve to be widespread, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local and independently organized events that gather people to share an experience similar to the one that would be experienced during a TED conference. At our event TEDx, videos of TEDTalks and live speakers will alternate to generate a great discussion and connection between the participants. The TED Conference gives guidelines for the TEDx, program, but TEDx events are organized independently. This TEDx event operates under a license granted by TED.
